Black Soldier Fly Larvae Frass - a Superfood for Plants
Frass is the byproduct, or manure, of the Black Soldier Fly Larvae. BSFL are renowned for their ability to quickly break down organic material like compost, far faster than mealworms or other decomposers. What's more, they generate massive amounts of frass as they go about that consumption. Depending on what is fed the BSFL, that frass can be incredibly nutritious to plant life, and even animal life (such as fish - more on that in our 'Animal Nutrients' section. However, if what is fed to BSFL contains toxins, those toxins will also be expressed via their frass, which can make its way into your vegetables and soil if you are not careful what goes into it.
By feeding our BSFL only organic, pre-consumer, human-grade foods, we know what is going into our BSFL is the same high-quality, locally sourced food we would serve our own families. We believe in the 'garbage in, garbage out' philosophy and we want customers who feel the same way we do -- "if I am growing chickens as a food supply, I should be feeding them what I'd want to eat myself."
We offer BSFL Frass in processed (ground) and unprocessed (unground) configurations. By default, we sell processed frass for consumer use. However, commercial landscaping efforts sometimes want large quantities of frass at the lowest possible pricepoint, and our unprocessed frass can be mixed with other soil offerings for a natural, high-nutrient-content soil that will have plants looking their absolute best, with top-quality nutrition and natural pest defenses!
